John appears in the York freemen rolls in 1467 and 1469 as both a shipman and a chapman, indicating a career progression in trade. Their move marks the establishment of a Hotchkiss / Hopkynson variant line in Yorkshire tied to merchant activity. Ralph would appear to have picked up the -son sufffic on his Hodgkinson name and moved to East Retford, where he and his wife passed away.
