His wife was Sarah E, who he married on 1 DEC 1853. The place has not been found. Their six known children were Ella (1854-1870), Ida (1855-1862), Hannah Maria (1859-1914), Lela E (c1862-1862), Fred (c1868-?) and Arthur Edwin (c1875-?).

Need help determining the names of parents of M.D. and Ira Hotchkiss.
M.D. Hotchkiss was born in 1821 in New York. His wife was Sara E., born 1823 in New York. Children were: Ellen, born 1854 in New York; Ida, born 1855 in New York, and Mariah, born 1859 in Michigan.
Ira Hotchkiss was born in 1820 in New York and his wife was Hannah, born in 1824 in New York.
M.D.'s and Ira's father was the brother of my great-great-grandmother, Urania Hotchkiss Nott Turner, born about 1795. She married Amasa Nott and later James Turner. Very little information has been found about her, so perhaps records of her brother's family may disclose more about their parents and ancestors.
I have a copy of a letter dated June 14, 1856 from M.D. Hotchkiss, from Caledonia, P.O. Box, Corunna, Shiawassee County to Urania Hotchkiss Nott Turner. He mentions his brother Ira, also an Allen Hotchkiss and wife Sevier/Severa. Allen was born 1825 in New York and Sevier/Severa was born in 1822 in Michigan and their children were Franklin born in 1853 in New York and Allen born in 1856 in New York.
In the letter, M.D. Hotchkiss says he came to Michigan last Dec. 1855.
