James was born in 1892 in Illawarra, New South Wales, Australia, the son of Daniel Hotchkiss and Janet Jessie McGeachie.
He died in 1938. The place is not known.
His wife was Galdys Wilson. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their three known children were Elizabeth (1923-2009), Margaret (1925-2007) and Joan (1931-?).
