James was born on 10 OCT 1878 in Leith, the son of Robert Jope and Annie Anderson.

He died on 28 JAN 1963 in Glasgow.

He had two marriages/partners. His first wife was Sarah White Topping, who he married on 30 JAN 1901 in St. Giles, Edinburgh. Their seven known children were Robert (1901-1945), William (1904-1959), Margaret Muir (1905-1906), Annie Anderson (1907-1911), Sarah (1911-1999), Jeanie (1913-?) and James (1917-1980).

His second wife was Clementine Aitken, who he married in ABT 1940. The place has not been found. They had no known children.
