Robert, married to Alice daughter <<<< Robert Hesketh de Hesketh [~1424 - ~1491] with wife Alice Booth and son Thomas. Page continues mixing the two Hesketh lines.
of Robert Booth in 1454,’ died in 1491,° leaving a
son Thomas, who, in default of legitimate issue,‘
bequeathed his manors to his natural son Robert, with <<<< Robert Hesketh de Rufford [~1478 - 1539]. Second son Robert, but heir was Thomas. I don’t see a Robert with heir Robert.
remainders to Charles and Ellen, brother and sister <<<< Robert Hesketh de Rufford [~1478 - 1539]. Siblings Charles and Helene.
Thomas Hesketh appears to have added
very largely to the hereditary possessions of his family,
and died at Ruford on 14 August 1523.° <<<< Thomas Hesketh de Rufford ~1453 - ~1523.
—
Alice widow of Robert Hesketh and
their sons Hugh and Richard in 1499-1
came to an agreement with Thomas the
heir as to dower, &c. ; Towneley MS.

and was buried at Rufford.

The church of ST. M./R? is situated
CHURCH onthe east side of the village and is a
modern building of red brick and stone
—
The building having no pretensions to antiquity is
itself uninteresting and architecturally it has little of
the appearance of a village church. It contains,
however, an alabaster slab and other fragments
belonging to the first church and some fittings
from the 18th-century structure. The slab is to
the memory of Thomas Hesketh [d. 1458] and <<<< 1438
Margaret his wife and is 6 ft. long by 3 ft. wide and
6 in. thick. It was until lately in the floor of the
nave lying north and south, in four pieces, but was
removed to the Hesketh chapel in 1907. It has
incised on it the figure of a man in armour with his
lady and underneath the figures of eleven children,
together with the coat of arms of Hesketh. ‘The
inscription runs round the slab, ‘Domine miserere
animabus Thome Hesketh et Margerie | uxoris ejus <<<< Thomas Hesketh de Hesketh
qui quidem Thomas | obijt xviij die mensis Decembris
a? d™ meccclviij: a litera dominicali.” At the
bottom are the names of eleven children—Robert,
William, Margery, Thomas, John, Hugh, William, <<<< Only one daughter?
Geoffrey, Richard, Henry and Nicholas.

TOTTLEWORTH is first mentioned in a grant
made early in the 13th century by Maud de Praers
to Uctred son of Roger de Rishton ; her gift included
three-fourths of the place, the bounds going from
Oakenholt syke through ‘Tottleworth lache on the
west side of Bentley, and thence by Norden Brook
and Hyndburn to the starting-place.® A rent of
half a mark of silver was to be paid. ‘The descendants
of the new owner probably assumed the local name,
for in 1258 Richard de Tottleworth held 40 acres of
land in Rishton of the lord of Clitheroe, paying half
a mark yearly. The estate descended to an Anabil
daughter of John de Tottleworth,” who about 1290
sold to William de Hesketh.” The estate continued
to descend in the family of Hesketh of Rufford and <<<< No - not of Rufford. This is Henry’s de Hesketh line, so I doubt the remaining references.
Great Harwood. Robert Hesketh died in 1490
holding his land in Tottleworth of Edmund Talbot
by a rent of 65. 84% The Robert who died in
1620 held messuage, land, &c., there of Thomas
Walmsley in socage ; they were part of the jointure
of Jane his wife, afterwards wife of Sir Richard
