Biography

Thomas Baskerville of Pontrilas, Herefordshire[1]

Thomas Baskerville was a son of Sir Walter Baskerville.[2][3][4][5]

His mother is uncertain but was most likely Sir Walter's first wife, Anne, daughter of Morgan ap Jenkyn ap Philip.

His year of birth is unknown. He was living by 1499 as the Inquisition Post Mortem for Sir James Baskerville in 1499[6] referred to his son Walter Baskerville and also to the following sons of Walter Baskerville namely: James Baskirvile, elder son of Walter; "John Baskirvile, whole brother of the said James the son"; "Philip Baskirvile and Thomas Baskirvile, third and fourth sons of the said Walter".

The Baskerville Pedigree in Robinson[4] noted Thomas Baskerville, son of Sir Walter Baskerville and Ann ferch Morgan ap Jenkyn, as Thomas Baskerville of Tretire and Wootton.

The Baskerville Pedigree in Burke stated that Thomas Baskerville of Pontrilas was the third son of Sir Walter Baskerville by his first marriage to Ann ferch Morgan ap Jenkyn. He had an illegitimate son, Walter, who married Jane Monington.[7]

Norr[8] referred to him as Thomas Baskerville of Pontrilas, 4th son of Sir Walter by Elizabeth Parry [ap Harry].

He died 21 July 1551 without [legitimate] issue. His Inquisition Post Mortem was 18 Oct 5 Edw VI.[4]

Summary of the Will of Thomas Baskervile 1551

In his will dated 19 Aug 1550 and proved 28 Aug 1551 he was recorded as "Thomas Baskervile of Ponttrilas".[1] His will was to be buried in the chancel of the church at Keynchurche [Kentchurch, Herefordshire]. He made bequests to:

his illegitimate sons Walter Baskervile and William Baskervile, the latter being under the age of 21

William Seyes

William a Glyn, Anthony a Glyn and James a Glyn
