Note 1
!Note: Clement Hotchkiss likely moved around due to the nature of his father’s work in expanding te family to the south of Shropshire, and holding the inherted title of knight, which required frequent travel. Additionally, his grandfather, Sir John Hotchkiss, had been pardoned posthumously in 1515 for his role with Richard III, which restored the family’s inheritances. This likely prompted a reorganization of the family’s holdings, with significant resettlement, especially after the death of Sir John’s brother, Archdeacon David of Beaminster in 1492. Over 80 members of the Hotchkiss family are thought to have moved south to Beaminster, and many others followed to nearby areas, which could explain the frequent relocation of Clement and his descendants.
