William was born in 1725 in Hope Plantation, Stafford, Virginia, the son of Daniel Matheny and Mary Routt.

He died about 1800 in SHENANDOAH Valley, Botetourt, Virginia.

His wife was Elizabeth Parker, who he married in 1744 in Stafford, Virginia. Their nine known children were Daniel (1745-?), Moses (1745-?), Joseph (1750-1837), Andrew (1751-?), James (1753-1832), Nathaniel (c1754-1846), John (1756-?), Fredrick (1760-?) and Ephraim (1764->1850).
