!Notes: Listed in 1900 census, in which Katherine Kemmerling stated that she had 6 children and had been married 15 years, as being 9 years old, born Jan 1891. The "Greber" book states that she was born in 1881.
!P: Janet was deaf and mute from early childhood as a result of an attach of scarlet fever. She was educated at St. Francis School for the Deaf at St. Francis, Wisconsin. She became a nun of the order of the Sisters of St. Francis Assisi. At t he time of her profession, she pronounced her vows in sign language.
!Notes: (From Phyllis Grissom) When Sisiter Carissima came to the 60th wedding celebration of her brother Bernard and his wife Marie, she saw that the other nuns present came by themselves. Sister decided that she would like to travel alone as wel l. Her wish was to travel to Florida. she wanted to see Bennie's house. Arrangements were made for her. she was granted permission to travel alone all the way to Florida. She had a wonderful time. When she returned to Milwaukee and St John's, sh e set about making packets of pictures for her neices and nephews. She felt she was nearing her time to go home to her Lord. Betstowing her photographs was one of her last actions. Many of the pictures in this family history were those cherishe d by Sister. She was a very young girl when she first left home for St. John's School for the deaf. She was the young and beautiful Jeannette NORMAN. She and her sisters, Eva and little Marie lost their hearing as a result of a bad case of Scarle t fever. All three girls were educated. they learned early to speak. They could also read lips. They were proficient in the use of the sign language as well.(55)
