His wife was Janet Wallace Smith, who he married on 15 AUG 1944 in Malden AAF Base, Malden, Dunklin County, Missouri. Their three known children were James LeRoy (Private) (1949-?), Timothy Gary (Private) (1956-?) and Keith Bernard (Private) (1957-?).

!P: From 1942 to 1946, Donald served with the United States Air Force as a cargo pilot [C-47, C-46] with the 5th Air Force, New Guinea through Japan.

!P: Stamp collecting is one of Donald's hobbies. He enjoys riding trains and has traveled 60,000 miles on the rails since 1960. He also bicycles and has pedaled 18,000 miles since August 1965.
