His wife was Sarah Carter, who he married in 1755 in Connecticut. Their eight known children were Josiah (1756-1844), Sylvester (1759-1842), Sarah (1761-?), Lucinda (1763-?), Cyrus (1764-?), Zenas (1764-1777), Levina (1766-?) and Cyrus (1771-1840).
